Mitchell Memorial Commemorating the Bushfires of February 2009

Mitchell Shire Council is inviting input into the process of creating a Mitchell Memorial. No decision has been made regarding the most appropriate way of commemorating the bushfires of February 2009, so your thoughts and views will help to shape the way in which this is done.
There is no “right” answer. There can only be your answer, your views and your thoughts. By providing them, you will help us to create a more appropriate way to commemorate the fires that had an impact on our community.
Mitchell Shire Council Mayor Graeme Coppel wants residents to understand that, “Community feedback has revealed that it is important that the Mitchell Bushfire Memorial commemorate the events of the February 2009 bushfires in a way that incorporates the entire Mitchell community; the way we struggled, lost, helped, volunteered, and strived to rebuild and regenerate. This memorial aims to pay noble tribute not to the flames of destruction, but rather to the spirit of our residents during the worst event in our community’s history. Everyone’s input, comments and views will be valued and considered.”
Feedback on an appropriate way to commemorate the bushfires of February 2009 is being sought by Council. Feedback forms are available from Council’s Libraries and Customer Service Centres and from the link at the base of this page. Please provide your opinion by Friday 8 April 2011.
Completed forms can be returned to any Mitchell Shire Council Library or Customer Service Centre or email mitchell [at] mitchellshire.vic.gov.au
