Business Arising

2011 Events Update

Australia Day Breakfast – 26th January 2011 was a huge success and attended by many including Councillors Kevin Mulroney & Trevor Tobias. Kevin Butler was to be the attending Ambassador however at the last minute he was unable to make this event due to volunteer commitments with the Queensland Floods.

Other Events The Committee Is Hoping To Run

Ladies Pamper Evening – Details including date yet to be finalized.

2nd Paintball Event (Men) – A 2nd paintball event is being organized. A list of interested parties has already been started

and preference will be given to those who were unable to attend the 1st event run.

Family Ten Pin Bowling – This idea to be researched, further details

will be supplied when and if possible to run.

Ladies Winery Tour – This idea to be researched, further details

Will be supplied when and if possible to run.

Red Cross Outreach – The first meeting was held in January 2011 however Rose King was unavailable to attend on that date. Further meetings being organized and Rose King still willing to be the Upper Plenty liaison for this.

February 7th Anniversary Event 2011 – A morning tea/light luncheon will be held at The Shack for those wanting to gather on this the 2nd Anniversary of Black Saturday. Deirdre Payne has organized Willara Café, Kilmore to cater the event with Hot and Cold Finger Food, Cakes, Scones & Fruit Platters. Thank you Deirdre for all your efforts. The Upper Plenty School Staff have also been invited to attend. Details of the event have been circulated via emails and advertised in the 2 page spread organized by MCRAG which appeared in the North Central Review.

MCRAG Report – Alison Holmberg presented the report as follows:

Several commemorative events being organized throughout the shire for the 2nd Anniversary. Clonbinane had a night activity on 5th February 2011 and Wandong/Heathcote Junction had a Breakfast event on Sunday 6th February 2011.

Heather Knight is still looking for peoples stories of Black Saturday for inclusion in her book.

A grant submitted by Hayley Day on behalf of MCRAG has been approved for TRE workshops (Trauma/Stress Exercises). These workshops will be open to residents from the entire Mitchell Shire. Details of these workshops yet to be discussed and organized.

Community Plan Pilot – Kilmore East has agreed to run with this.

MCRAG Succession Plan – A special meeting is being held on Thursday 10th February 2011 with a facilitator being supplied by VBRRA. The facilitator has already assisted 2 other CRC organizations with their transitions. MCRAG is hoping to remain active in some form and are hoping to acquire DGR Status (Donor Gift Recipient) so that they can continue to assist with funding for various causes and events within the Mitchell Shire. MCRAG already has funding to employ a worker to assist the ongoing group.

Project Control Group – Rose King advised the following:

– Council Permit for large tree removal should now have been issued. Upon removal of the big tree it is hoped that it will be mulched and all mulch will remain on site for gardens and re-vegetation works around the creek.

– Council has already taken down three (3) dead trees in the area.

– Tenders have been sent to all interested trades people.

– Tenders close 11th February 2011.

– Gillian still to supply floor polisher details to Nick Haslinghouse.

– Hayley advised that the sign advising all partners in the project should be available in the next two (2) weeks. Sign being organized by Nick Haslinghouse and supplied by VBRRA.

– Next Project Control Meeting scheduled for Thursday 17th February 2011 at 11am.

Creek Project – Rose King advised that she has already done some spraying in the area over the Christmas break and that further spraying would now be needed as the recent floods have now exposed onion weed bulbs. James Nelsson still to supply plant lists, Rose to liaise with him further on this. Rose advised that she is hoping to have a weed free area ready for planting in Autumn. The school has expressed interest in being included in the Creek Project and a meeting will be organized at a later date with school representatives to discuss how the students may be included.

Landcare/Recycling For Recovery Grant – Alison Holmberg advised that all paperwork for this grant has now been finalized and the money will be deposited into The Shack Committee Bank Account. Great work Alison.

Special Effort Raffle – This raffle in aide of the Flood Appeal raised a total of $514. Special thanks to Days Motorcycles for the donation of a child’s bicycle and David Meek & Val Paton for the donation of a Made To Order Oilskin Coat – both very generous donations and very much appreciated.

Upper Plenty Website – Rose King confirmed that Tony Wakefield is now maintaining our new website http://upperplenty.com Tony has also now officially advised the relevant people that the old upperplenty.vic.au domain will no longer be required. Alison Holmberg & Rose King also acknowledge the wonderful job done by Tony in getting footage of the Australia Day Breakfast and the super efficiency of Tony in having it on the website the same day. Great work Tony and your efforts are very much appreciated.

VBAF – Wellness Voucher Program – Hayley Day advised the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund has announced a new gift, the Bushfire Recovery Wellness Voucher Program.

The gift aims to assist people directly affected by the 2009 Victorian bushfires to access allied health services or complementary therapies that they feel will increase their wellbeing.  

The program provides for allied health or complementary therapy sessions to individuals who have been directly affected by the 2009 Victorian bushfires. Successful applicants will be provided with four vouchers that can be used to see an eligible treatment provider of their choice.

Each voucher is a $50 contribution towards the cost of one session of treatment and there may be a gap or co-payment required depending on the cost of treatment.

The program will run from 14 February 2011 until 10 August 2011 and vouchers can be used anytime during this period.
