Communications In Times of Fire

Upper Plenty Community is Now using Channel 12 UHF CB.

This was first published in 2009 this is an update.

To keep in touch in times of danger. If you have a UHF CB in the house, Car or Caravan then please tune to channel 12.

Try and find out locations of who is on and if you do not have a CB then check with your neighbors.

Remember if 240v power is lost you may need a 12v Battery to run a car type CB in your house.

Small hand held CB’s have a more restricted range (keep the batteries charged!).

If the phone’s are down and mains power has failed then you may need to contact someone is the case of an emergency. CB radio may be the answer for You! If you travel with a caravan you will probably already be using a CB to monitor the Trucks & Traffic on your journey and you can vouch just how helpful to warn you of a Road Train or a Wide Load approaching!

If you email the editor AT upperplenty.vic.au with your name and location then we can produce a map of locations so you will be able to see how close everyone is. Please include details of type of CB i.e Hand held with power 1w or 5w, Car or house full power 5w.

If we get a good response then a test can take place to check the coverage. We have at least 2 Radio Hams in area who may be able to help set up or give general advice.

Myself your editor Tony Wakefield VK3ZTR and Paul Brinsden VK3YFJ any other Ham Radio Operators in the area have equipment that can transmit over long distances and relay or request help. Please contact me or Paul at “The Shack Meetings”  or email to above address if you require any help or further information.
